Reg Pengelly was a senior detective officer with Thames Valley Police and completed his service as the Lead Staff Officer for Personal Crime and Forensic Science at the Home Office branch of Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary. He represented HMIC at the Victoria Climbie Inquiry and led the police team that participated in the first Joint Chief Inspector’s national inspection of Safeguarding Children.

On retirement he went on to help write national guidance for the police service on the investigation of child abuse, domestic violence and harrassment. In 2004 he joined the NHS and was subsequently promoted to become the Associate Director responsible for safeguarding across Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole, retiring again in April 2013. He holds a number of management qualifications including a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Henley Management College.
