On Friday 30th September 2016 Virtual College’s Safeguarding Division hosted the Advisory Panel Meeting (APM) at the Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley.

The Advisory Panel is a quarterly coming together of skilled professionals who specialise in safeguarding to discuss the current issues and hot topics that are relevant in child protection today.

The morning session of the day featured a presentation from Sue Woolmore, who used two different visual demonstrations to represent real experiences that those working on the frontline of safeguarding encounter every day. She also went on to explain how best to support safeguarding staff who are working in the most stressful of environments. To read a summary of Sue’s presentation, please click here.

The day also included presentations from Naomi Hepworth, Virtual College’s Safeguarding Manager, and Jay Turner, Tactical Marketing Manager at Virtual College. Both discussed the history of the Safeguarding e-academy as part of our 10 year anniversary celebrations taking place this year. To hear about our 10 year celebrations, please click here.

The majority of the afternoon session focussed on the issues that local safeguarding children boards are facing and their causes. An emphasis was placed on how Virtual College could support the LSCBs in the face of these challenges and what practical solutions were available.

An amendment was made for the date of the next advisory panel meeting, now taking place on Friday 9th December 2016.
